2 ways to style a striped dress this summer!

The striped dress is one of my all-time favorite closet staples for summer. I think I own like two or three and each time I see a new one I totally want it (but have to restrain!).  Striped dresses are the ultimate work horse in your closet… from throwing over a swim suit at the beach, to hanging out with the kids, to weekend errands, to a fun girls night out look or even dressed up for a summer date night.  This little dress can do it all!

To be honest, sometimes I just throw on a striped dress and my favorite flip flops and call it good… that always works too!

Call me crazy but dressing in red, white and blue all weekend is, like, mandatory!  And fun too…  I already wear a ton of blue and white… I do admit that my closet is a little low on red… but just have some fun this weekend breaking out any red, white, blue, stars, stripes or other patriotic outfits you can think of!  There is no better time!

I'm going full throttle on the patriotic theme this week… Fair warning: you will be seeing lots of stripes and red, white and blue inspiration this week for sure (both here and on Instagram!). These striped shorts have long been on my wish list and when I finally bought them (I don't know what took me so long!) I quickly realized they are now a closet staple.

They are a perfect staple for around the house during the week or hitting the pool or hanging out with friends on the weekends.  You can easily throw a tank top on with them or even dress them up with flats and a blazer.

I've mentioned this before, but whenever I am stuck on how to style a piece in my closet (or I am feeling lazy!) I always turn to my chambray shirt.  It seems to go with anything and always makes for a pulled together look at a moment's notice.

Let's be honest, I wear stripes year round… so to say that there is a "stripe season" is a little silly. But during the summer I can hardly go a day or two without sporting stripes.  Summer time is a stripe state of mind.

And with the Fourth of July celebration coming up this weekend, what is more patriotic that sporting some stripes?!?!  This week will have a decidedly patriotic theme here on the blog (and over on Instagram too… check me out for in the flesh patriotic inspiration all week as well!).  Today I have stripes, stripes and more stripes and check back for tons of inspiration for the Fourth all week!

closet staple: military-inspired jacket!

One of my staple jackets - pretty much for any season - is this military-inspired jacket… I love to layer it up with sweater, tees, tanks, oxfords, you name it.  It goes with absolutely everything in my closet and it's comfortable to the max.  So it's no surprise it gets ton of wear.  

Here are a number of ways I have worn it… not all of these styles are for summer, but it speaks to the versatility of this piece, for sure.

on my radar/june 2015

As I sat down to think about what's been on my radar this month I was completely blown away by the fact that June is already in it's twilight. Here I am just trying to make it to the pool once in a while and the farmers market once a week and summer already feels like it's half over.  This is so sad!  So basically all that's been on my radar is the pool… haha! Unless you count making jam and pickles and hoarding farmers market goodies in general. I hate that this warm weather is so fleeing here in Michigan.

So without further ado… here's what's on my radar this June (almost July, almost summer's end, almost crying uncontrollably).

who doesn't want like 10 new pairs of sunnies this time of year? I love how these classic tortoise frames have a slight pink reflection to the lens.  So classic and trendy together.

a little sunnies/kissy-lips clutch action? yes ma'am!  how adorable is this clutch? and it's perfect for putting your phone and popsicle money in for the pool. on a budget? This little clutch is perfectly practical and affordable!

need a good pool read? you can gulp down Bittersweet in a few sittings or like I did, drag it out for a week because you just DON'T want it to end it's so good. It's a page-turner and oh so summery and quite suspenseful as well. 

this chambray jumpsuit is, you guessed it, perfect for the pool. But seriously, you could pair this with a denim jacket or cardigan for around town or even a black blazer for a casual (albeit, very casual) day in the office. Or, ohhhh! Date night! Bonus, it's under $30!

I am loving the new "dew skin tinted moisturizer" from Beautycounter… it's super glowy with great coverage and also has SPF, for - duh - the pool! This is the perfect summer foundation; it's so light and fresh feeling!

Sugar lip products are my favorite… this fun red is light enough for summer, but revved up enough for fun! Bonus, Sugar lips are always SPF 15 and it's hard to find a functional AND pretty SPF for lips (Which is always the first thing that gets burned on me! Maybe you too?)

I'm really digging a lighter and fresher alternative to clunky beach towels these days… These Turkish Towels are awesome for the beach or pool and way easier to wash and dry after a day in the sun because they are so lightweight.

Fringed sandals. Gimme, gimme. I'm all about these and how fun is this tomato red??
